keithb - I agree totally. My own use of computers is not all that different from most people, but after 50 strong hours of brain cells killing programming (mechanical engineering and DSP) a week, i don't find them amusing as most people do. Yet it seems, even in my hobbies, there's no escape.

A ...

+1 on matrixsynth

http://stretta.blogspot.com/ has cool content as well

Portamental - the nice thing about blogs is that I can subscribe to as many as I want, and new content is delivered to me as it's generated - no need to keep revisiting.

I'll explore that shortly.

Unfortunately I don't have anything that will generate CV/Gate signals that I could use to verify that it's a problem w the oscillator(s) and not the keybed.

Got the MG-1 today.

The issue it's having is that it plays the same note no matter which key on the keyboard is depressed. The service manual suggests faulty glide slider, faulty pitch jack, or a pair of ICs.

I cleaned the glide slider, and it's producing the correct resistances. Checked the pitch ...

Picked up a less than fully functional MG-1 on Ebay for a reasonable price. The service manual lists repairs for the symptoms described by the seller, so hopefully the fix will be straightforward.

Has anyone ever seen a pitch/mod wheel grafted on to the MG-1? I understand it's basically the same ...

My thought is that they were aiming at this market with the LP

I could save for the LP, but the $1000+ price tag puts it out of the "just do it" range and into the "hmm, let's think about it" range for me :)

I have been watching the AutomaticGainsay videos - I'm very interested to see the last two.

Thanks for the input guys - pitch/mod wheels are a point in the Rogue's favor.

The Dark Energy does look interesting, and it's definitely along the lines of what I want - I'll have to see if I can demo one somewhere. Unfortunately most of the demos I see on youtube are sequenced dance music, which ...

New guy - Rogue or MG-1 a good choice?

I primarily play guitar and bass, and I'd like to start taking keys a bit more seriously. My only experience on keys is piano lessons as a kid and messing around with a Roland Alpha Juno a few years ago. I've been getting more and more interested in classic prog rock sounds (ELP, Yes, Genesis, etc ...
