Re: Moog electronics

Yes, this is a famous thing - Moog did electronic design (especially the low rate audio samples) for the original run of Chexx and SuperChexx hockey. It seems all the vintage video-game collectors love it for the clear bubble and the sound FX. Pretty expensive to buy, but someone is making them agai...

Re: Moog Music UK 90s Minimoog?

The history(s) of RAMoog, Moog Music Inc. MME, EJE etc etc is very confusing. I've been asked to write something on the long history and have been pursuing it for years, it's fairly complete, so it should be "out" soon. Many things are assumed by people, and some things not yet uncovered i...

Re: RIP Kevin Lightner/Synthfool

Friends here have been calling each other this week, sharing stories and memories of him. It's hard to believe he's not around, out just somewhere. I did visit a few times this year and it was getting more and more final - hope was just not a word anyone could use. Then the last we communicated was ...

Re: Minimoog model D differences

Interesting results. But maybe (if there was a way) to test between boards of the SAME type, to keep it scientific. And make sure those boards behave the same, THEN we can more safely compare different board eras as "typical" for this era...? As I used to say when people asked "does i...

Re: RIP Kevin Lightner/Synthfool

Wow, so sad. He had such troubles with physical pain. It made any part of life Tough, and restoration of synths (his favorite world) just impossible. We are all lucky his words and advice are still out there, as he was so generous on the forums. No one like him anywhere, truly. I spent some Time thi...

Re: Electronic Music Review from Trumansburg

It is an interesting publication. Reyn Widenaar was an early connection to Moog, and a close friend of Bob's. In a way, this publication was supported by R A Moog (not hard to spot, when you look for it) and they gave away some good detail, construction projects etc. In this period, the whole EMusic...

Re: Moog modular switches

Has not been mentioned here, but the LeverLite clear toggles use small colored gels behind the switch. Each position can have a different color (or white) when it's tilted to the right angle. The factory supplied them, or you could make your own from standard lighting gels. I suspect the cost issue ...

Re: Moog modular switches

#1001 is likely a first one, but hard to say - many are unnumbered, and sometimes there are "lab" versions... as you say; production is different. These are indeed beautiful, and do yours have 3 positions? Several of these older Moogs have 3-position switches, but use only 2 settings are u...

Re: Moog modular switches

Hi Brian: Most everything else is available, but these switches have been a challenge. They were only used for a year or two before Moog went to the blue/red-green/white lighted sliders. Interesting that Gene Stopp and others have mentioned that those sliders were one of the most difficult parts to...

Re: Moog modular switches

Hey Trigger - I know those switches, quite beautiful. The later ColorGlo slider switches from the '70s are much more common, but these are really exceptional-looking. May I ask why you need them? Are you restoring a synth or building something. Sad to say, these are among the hardest parts to find o...

Re: Polymoog prototype

Whoever got this, it's very worthwhile to have, even for a great coffee table. Which also means it's preserved for future use/restoration. There ARE people in this world who could figure it out. Might be costly though. However, if ANYONE who reads this thread turns up schematics for the APOLLO versi...

Re: The New Emerson Moog Modular System Is Real

I have not weighed in at all on this, so far. (Mainly because I am not wanting to be deluged with questions and opinions as so often happens in a forum.) However, some thoughts on this could be more clearly expressed... The group decision to replicate the Emerson modular was done mainly as it's the ...

Re: Polymoog prototype

In the old days, the tech services here used to charge TWICE as much per hour for CS80 work. Mainly because of the horrible tuning issues - tune it, close the lid - it's out of tune. So repeat and repeat and repeat til done. Could take hours, and then you move it - more trouble. They used to sometim...

Re: Modular cabinets

Indeed, virtually ALL the Moog systems I've ever seen (confirmed by former employees) is that you're seeing plywood with a thick walnut veneer. A few have solid wood here and there, but very few. Cheaper, stronger, prevents warping... However, I've notice many do not really look like the famous blac...
