Re: Sub 37 upgrade legit or troll?

What would the upgrade consist of? A user-swappable board, factory service, or a trade-in program for a whole new synth? I wonder what the cost would be. If it's hundreds of dollars, I'll somehow survive with my stock Sub 37. The cleaner mixer behavior is nice, but the extra distortion in the new mu...

Sub 37's "dark" tone: myth?

I keep seeing discussion of the Sub 37's darker tone, at least compared to other Moog instruments like the Mini. I'd like to mention that if you pull up a factory default INIT patch and hit some notes, you're probably hearing the oscillators being slightly lowpassed. The main reason is the default k...

Re: 1.2 Firware update has bricked my synth

Glad to hear you're up and running again.

Incorrectly installed firmware would never cause a specific issue like sync. Firmware either installs perfectly or it fails to install, thanks to a checksum. So reinstalling the same version is never any better than a reset.

Re: Sub 37 Audio Modulation

I don't think this is possible, unless I am mistaken. Oscillator pitch is a mod source, but it's not the wave output that is used. It's more like the note, or input side control voltage. So higher notes produce more modulation, but that source is a steady value like a mod wheel, not the audio rate r...

Neat and Unique Sub 37 Sounds and Behaviors

I thought I'd start a thread about some of the cool (or at least unique) Sub 37 tones and behaviors that I have not encountered on other synths. 1. Keyboard Octave Switching: Most synths I've used - virtual analogs and digitally controlled analogs - have short keybeds with octave switches. Usually y...

Re: A Duo Mode possibility?

Yeah, dual virtual AMP envelopes does seem like a fairly big thing to hope for and I wouldn't really expect it. Not exactly sure how the synth architecture works, but I believe there is a real analog amp circuit (and probably a noise gate.) It gets CV from a digitally generated ADSR. It gets the aud...

Re: A Duo Mode possibility?

Another idea - since independent oscillator volume is also a digitally controlled parameter, could the OS provide a virtual AMP envelope per oscillator? This way you could have the mute style gating, or something that would sound like 2 separate ADSRs. Hmm. I wonder what's possible? I'll add it to t...

A Duo Mode possibility?

I've had my Sub 37 for a week and it's been very fun and rewarding. Duo Mode in particular is wild - it pushes the instrument beyond monoland. Duophonic keying could benefit from another mode. I'd like to play a single note, and get a single oscillator. Play 2 notes, you get two. Release one note, y...

Re: Sub 37 Shipping Blues

I'd imagine Moog Music ships the Sub 37s to dealers in a larger box or crate, maybe 4 or 6 to a big box or something, ground freight? (At least for bulk shipments to places like Sweetwater and Guitar Center.) The dealers would receive them, warehouse 'em and ship those out in their own outer box. Th...

Re: Sub 37 Gap in case

I can also see a tiny gap. I probably wouldn't have noticed without this thread, or the screen light bleeding through. It's the kind of thing I don't remotely care about. Maybe the long-rumored stage edition will lose the wood and gain a gapless side panel design. I'll take wood with a microscopic g...

Re: Sub 37 Shipping Blues

Update: got my damage complaint escalated. Opting to keep the Sub 37 and get a small partial refund, probably replace the wood and knob later. I've played it for 2 days straight, no issues. This seems to be a case of double bad luck. Improperly packed by dealer, rough handling by delivery company. I...

Re: Sub 37 Shipping Blues

I just got it 6 hours ago, I think I'll take a day or two to decide what to do, test everything in the meantime. At most maybe they can get me a new left wood piece and a volume knob, can't be that much money. I'd hate to have to send it back over minor cosmetic issues, who knows how they'll ship it...

Sub 37 Shipping Blues

Long Story Medium. Bought a new Sub 37 online from a New York dealer who I won't name. I live close by in New England, but the dealer's warehouse is mid-Atlantic. So it was nearly a week of ground delivery. Fine. Good things come to those who wait. Truck pulls up today. Driver rings the bell and is ...

Re: Sub37 Yellow Keys!

Do you park your 37 near a sunny window? A sheet will stop the dust, but isn't great for direct sunlight. And if you light your studio with black lights (or even compact fluorescents ) you're baking those ivories in UV. Ultraviolet light turns many white plastics yellow. Maybe the 37 has a different...

Re: Disabling sequencer, is it possible?

The M-32's sequencer is going to start running every time it receives a MIDI Start message, and incoming notes will transpose that sequence. Ableton Live automatically generates a MIDI Start message when you hit play or record. You'll need to dig around on the Live forms for a way to edit or filter ...
