Re: Does anyone use moogerfoogers with their theremin?

Thomas Zunk, whom I performed with at Avantgarde Festival Schiphorst 2010 in Germany over the Fourth of July weekend, uses an Etherwave Theremin with several Moogerfoogers, including the Ring Mod (I don't know all the details of his setup, I'm afraid.) I've just posted recordings of two of our impro...

It's definitely a ring modulator, probably a Maestro, which is what most of the Rhodes players used back then. It had its own oscillator for the modulation carrier, and a pitch slider you could whip around while playing, which is what Jan's doing here.

The tone certainly doesn't sound synthesized to me - it's much more like the sound of vibrating strings driven by an EBow. The problem with that technology is that it's been impossible until now to get more than one string to sustain independently of the others. Heet Sound, the makers of the EBow, a...

Correct.

Yes, he uses the foot pedal for that final bend.

When you say it doesn't bend correctly, do you mean that it doesn't bend at all, or that the bend is out of tune? If it doesn't bend at all - that is, you get steps when you slide - make sure that your Rounding value is set to less than 127, if you have Rounding on at all. If the bend is out of tune...

Warning About Sex Postings

Just so everyone is aware, the recent flood of sex-related postings on this board link to a site that will automatically download and install an executable file on Windows systems. I haven't checked it personally, but this executable almost certainly contains a Trojan that will turn your system into...

I'd also recommend Electric Sound by Joel Chadabe, which does a great job of covering the early days of electronic music, particularly the more experimental and academic sides.

Obviously it's nothing to do with Universal. But is it worth letting Universal know their company keeps getting named when people are spamming websites? Or is that making too much of it? I wouldn't be so sure about that - some genius at Universal may have decided that this "viral marketing&quo...

Adventures In Analog Synthesis

Friends: ordinarily, I wouldn't send a commercial posting like this to the list, but I asked the moderator to check out the offering and he felt that it would be appropriate. I've produced and am selling a series of nine educational video clips on the basics of analog synthesis, using a modular synt...

Your desire to edit tape is commendable, if anachronistic. This is the way we used to do it in the studios I worked in. You'll need a splicing block - get a steel one, not aluminum or plastic, as they wear out after a while. But also be careful to demagnetize the steel block regularly, or you'll get...

You can usually clean dirty pots without opening them up or applying cleaner at all. Just rotate the pot rapidly 20 times or so through the full range of its rotation - try putting your finger firmly alongside the pot and running your finger up and down rapidly. If you have to pot online, you should...
