Some of my favorite VSTi's are from Native Instruments, Spectrasonics, and Steinberg. There are tons of free VSTi's on the web, but they obviously are not going to be very good compared to retail items. I use a nord lead 2x with my moog and they go together just fine.

the nord is a gritty abrasive sounding tool and the moog complements it perfectly.... :)
