Re: Problem with 2022 minimoogs aftertouch
Which pitch offset are you referring to? Turning VCO modulation on/off when the mod wheel is at 0% ? On my 2022, this is about 7 cents, pretty small, due to offsets in the new modulation circuit. (From the factory, the offset was more like 11-12 cents, but I reduced it with some resistor substitutio...

Re: Problem with 2022 minimoogs aftertouch
Yes, the MUSE functions are rather handy, though somewhat pricey. By my understanding of the new hardware, I think that if they chose to, Moog could implement pressure-activated modulation depth, variable mod wheel sensitivity, and variable pitch bend range, all in a firmware update. If I were them,...

Getting back to the problem with the 2022 Mini’s aftertouch, I finally posted my analysis/fix on ModWIggler: https://www.modwiggler.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=273949

Re: matriarch question - fixed pitch oscillators possible?
I agree the Matriarch would benefit from a feature to disconnect any oscillator from the keyboard CV. A workaround you can try (may be a little fiddly): patch the keyboard CV out to an attenuator, dial the attenuator to the left to invert the CV, and plug the output into your VCO CV. With some adjus...

Re: New Matriarch Velocity Curves incorrectly described
I took a look at this yesterday with an oscilloscope (Korg NTS-2 is very handy). There are different curves, but I didn’t find them very helpful because the overall range is weird. For instance, in linear mode, it is very hard to get a velocity voltage below half of full scale. It is possible, but f...

Re: Can Grandmother power external MIDI KB via USB MIDI?
Well, I don’t know for sure, but it’s highly doubtful. The vast majority of USB ports are directional in the sense that there is a “host” and a “client”. The GM is configured to be a client connected to a host computer. I do not think it is capable of playing a host role for your pedals.

Re: Deadband Mod on 70's Minimoog
In the new Moog biography, “Switched On”, Bill Hemsath is quoted as saying that they developed a spring returned pitch wheel in the first Mini prototypes. I wonder what happened in production, or maybe some early minis had sprung wheels? Anyway, according to this source, the idea of a sprung wheel w...

Re: 1976 Minimoog Unstable Oscillator 1
Interesting. My post should be corrected: LM3046, not CA3046. Also, they appear to be socketed. I suppose you could swap the chips to see if the problem moves to a different oscillator.

Re: 1976 Minimoog Unstable Oscillator 1
I would look at the voltages in the expo converter section, preferably with a scope. You can compare good oscillators to the bad one for all the various pins of the CA3046 IC. Likely some voltage there shows up as unstable for one oscillator and stable for the others. (You will have to sue the schem...

Re: What is the aprox duration of the ENV stages on the Grandmother?
I'd be willing to explore modifying my two M32's, SubH, and DFAM pots along with your *mother if you want to do it. Great information and insight in your previous post. Thanks for offering to mod, but I am fine with doing the work myself. I plan to also do some version of Synthbuilder’s mods on my ...

Re: What is the aprox duration of the ENV stages on the Grandmother?
Yes, the taper appears to be largely two linear segments. But in addition to that, there are significant end-of-track effects and jumpy resolution at the CCW end. I’m not sure what is going on. I separately measured an Alpha 9mm 1M audio pot and it behaved somewhat better in the fine resolution. Of ...

Re: Matriarch - chorus patch with delay
As a circuit designer, I fully agree with your assessment. The question to me is: why did Moog design it this way? Much of the charm (if any, with modern tech) of analog delays is in the smooth and continuous modulation of the timebase. If one wants a murky delay with glitchy clocking and tempo-sync...

Re: Micromoog- how to fix a key
If just the left C does not work and the other keys do, I assume that the resistor string for the key voltages is not damaged. Check the key contacts of the left C for corrosion and look whether you can clean them. Are there Kimber Allan contacts used for the keyboard? If so the one for the left C ...

Re: Matriarch - chorus patch with delay
Well, I finally got around to installing the 1.3.0 firmware patch. AND, the delay time1/time2 inputs are still entirely worthless. I’m very disappointed. IMO — the Matriarch delay remains intensely dark, bland, and featureless. But maybe I’m missing the point. I really don’t give a damn for synchron...

Re: What is the aprox duration of the ENV stages on the Grandmother?
I don’t have a Grandmother, but I have measured my Matriarch and I would speculate that the circuits are the same. Unfortunately, the envelope design is not very good if you care about short timings. The old-school analog circuits used in these synthesizers depend on custom potentiometers to get goo...
