Re: Matriarch: please allow stacked position of oscillators
It would be amazing if the Matriarch had a new global setting for a new paraphonic mode where each osc would always be associated with where it was on the chord. For example, the 4th osc would always be the highest note, the 3rd osc would always be the second highest, the 2nd osc would be second lo...

Re: Matriarch Main Volume knob / output headroom
I’ve posted about this too.
Are they the same at 100% master volume? Moog say it should be fairly similar. It’s just the output curve is different

Re: Matriarch - Sonic Character
Hi All Having spoken to Moog and browsed a few forums it turns out I was right - the Matriarch is designed to be quieter than the Phatty line due to the way the amplifier works (in a more analogue way) Lisa Bella Donna has posted some great advice on using the mixer for anyone interested (See attach...

Re: Matriarch Paraphonic Playing "style"
As a full-polyphonic, or a monophonic (Grandmother) player, I'm having a tough time getting the hang of oscillator rotations in 4-voice polyphony. I've tried various polyphonic firmware settings but when I play with more than two fingers in 4-voice mode, the notes played become too random for my ta...

Re: Matriarch - Sonic Character
Hi Governorsilver On the first recording the mixer knobs are 50% for all oscillators, noise off. On the second recording only osc 1 is 50%, everything else off. Having spoken to Moog they say that the velocity curve of the output of both synths is different - so 50% volume will deliver quite a diffe...

Re: Matriarch - Sonic Character
What were your oscillator level settings in the Mixer? One thing I didn't realize until after I bought mine was that turning the oscillator level past noon in the mixer introduces drive. There's also a lot of variance in tone depending on the filter switch(series/stereo/parallel), VCA mode switch, ...

Re: Matriarch - Sonic Character
Another clip comparing sawtooth waves of the Matriarch and Sub Phatty - Seems the phatty has a fair bit more presence and volume at the same output level

Matriarch - Sonic Character
Hi everyone, Having owned a Sub Phatty I was quite surprised at the sonic characteristics of the Matriarch - Dark and ‘scooped’ is how I would describe it I’ve just recorded a quick clip of four sawtooth waves with all filter settings at 50% and Stereo mode - To my ears this is pretty muddy sounding...

Sub/Subsequent editor on M1 Apple Silicon
Hi all Is there a plan to update the Sub Phatty/Sub 37 editors for the new Apple Silicon Macs? The issue is that you can’t run Ableton/Logic in their optimised versions if you convert the Sub editor using Rosetta 2 - this would really limit the use of these keyboards in future DAW applications Anyon...

Re: Moog Grandmother - knob resistance
Hi synthury My Matriarch has a much looser cutoff knob - the rest of the knobs are quite solid feeling. Same with the sub phatty - except the cutoff knob is much more stiff Hello There, Just got my first Moog today ! I opened it up quickly in order to check the unit, but have not time to hook it up....

Re: Matriarch - Clipping
The Matriarch has three circuit blocks that could introduce distortion. The mixer produces hard clipping. On a scope you'll see the waveform develop obvious straight edges at the top and bottom. It's asymmetrical so one side will clip before the other. The filter has symmetrical clipping and this w...

Re: Matriarch - Clipping
I know where the OP is coming from. I own a couple other Moogs. A Taurus 3 and an MG1 (the Radio Shack version of an Opus/Rogue). I've also had a Minimoog on loan off and on from a good friend for years. These are much cleaner sounding even with the oscs full on. Though overall the older synths hav...

Re: Matriarch - Dual filter ‘tuning’
Hi Francis, My filters are usually in tune with the "spacing" knob very slightly to the left of 12 o'clock also. I've never tried calibrating my Matriarch, but I imagine that might help. Another trick if you only want to use one filter: you can just patch the output of VCF1 to the input o...

Taking Moogs on a flight
Dear Moog Music,
Does anyone have experience of flying with synthesisers and taking them as a carry on - Are there any risks of X-ray/scanning damaging the synth at all?
Cabin baggage/hold baggage is the next concern - Would a Flightcase offer adequate protection in the hold?

Matriarch - Dual filter ‘tuning’
Dear Moog Music Forum One quirk I’ve found with the Matriarch is that when you play the dual filter you get two tones (of course) With both filters set at maximum resonance the relative pitch of each is different - it sounds like the approx interval of a third. Is there a way to have both in exact u...
