In the 90’s I once had a sales rep describe this type of cable as: “if your looking for something more affordable, this is our 24 hour patch cord.”

interesting possibility... but seems unlikely. The theremin as a spooky sound wasn’t a thing in the US mainstream until after WWII... (mostly in the 50’s —1944’s the Lost Weekend being an early example). Asimov’s book was written in 1941, but I guess it’s possible he could have been introduced to it...

here’s some more notable theremin players to check out, just to hear the instrument. *not all use a moog theremin* but it sounds like you just want to hear actual music played on the instrument. so... Clara Rockmore was the original theremin virtuoso. She moved from violin to theremin because of art...
