MF102 and Kenton MIDI-CV Converter

Post by Dannymon » Wed May 11, 2005 3:17 pm

Please pardon my ignorance in the Analog Synth field.

I currently own the MF102-101-103, and I’ve been looking for a way to trigger my MF102’s oscillator with a MIDI keyboard. My first option is the Kenton CV-MIDI converter, but since the MF102 doesn’t have a Gate input, I’m not sure if it will work correctly, and I would like to know prior to buying the Kenton CV-Midi converter.

Do you guys think this will work?

Thanks for any input.

I don't believe the 102 will track perfectly as a traditional 1v/oct or hertz/oct VCO will. You are not going to get set melodys or basslines from the 102.

VCO's are always running in a synth.

It's the gate that triggers the ADSR or Envelope Generator that then controls the VCA that makes the pitch start and stop.

Thanks for the answers! Do you guys think its still worth picking up the MIDI to CV converter being that I only have Moogerfoogers but no Analog monosynth?

they usually offer midi cc to CV and software LFOs so, if you need that, yes. even if the carrier doesnt track it may still be nice to plug the pitchCV in and play the keyboard while using it as a ring modulator
