What would happen if...

Post by Kenneth » Fri Sep 04, 2009 3:00 pm

I ran a quarter inch from my headphone jack to my audio input? I think I wanna try it out but bad things could happen... Anyone have any clues? Is it safe? Could I be injured in the process?

Doing this will give you an unamplified microphone. It wouldn't do anything.

I'd think you'd get a feedback loop which would continue gaining strength until it destroyed your speakers. I probably would avoid it.

Why an unamplified microphone? Isn't there signal coming from the headphone jack being repeated by the audio input?
I don't have a LP yet so I am not positive of what happens at the audio input.

I've heard that running the headphone input back into the audio is a trick some used to thicken up the sound on a Minimoog.

I've never tried it on my LP, but I don't really see what harm it might do.

Has anyone actually tried it?

I just tried it.

With the output volume below half it thins out the low end. As I turned up the output volume I got feedback - the unpleasant kind like when you point a microphone at a monitor speaker.

Not really a useful thing to do.

I think he thought you were going to plug the cable from a pair of headphones into the external audio in jack, not the output from the headphone jack on the LP.
