Appropriate Stand for the Phatty
Appropriate Stand for the Phatty
Hey everyone,
I'm troubleshooting trying to optimize my work space for maximum functionality/room optimization so I'm considering getting the Hosa RMT152 (as mentioned on another post today) for the foogers etc, but I'm also considering graduation my LPTE to something a little better for desk space, like a keyboard stand. I remember reading a while ago that it's heaviness is a concern, so I wondered what people get for it. Pics of setups would be great btw!

I'm just using an X-stand. It's the double braced type that doesn't wobble around. It works fine for my studio setup, but it's a little tall to play sitting since the LP is not that wide.
I'm hoping/planning on using my A-Frame stand for gigs; I'll let you know how that goes. It's a little scary so I'm going to thoroughly test that one.

You might consider a column stand like the Ultimate 'Apex' series:Xenollop wrote:Hey everyone,

The arms that support the LP can be adjusted up or down for optimum standing/sitting positions, and the stand breaks down nicely for easy storage and transportability (the arms and legs are stored inside the column).
At about 20 lbs or so, the weight of the LP should not be an issue for any stand. Your comment about keyboard weight probably refers to the Voyager, which is about 40 lbs. (the Apex can easily handle the Voyager, too).
I also use an Aphex (AX48s(silver) ) for some set-ups. It’s cool it becomes its own case by storing the arms within the column. There was a less expensive version that did not store the arms but I think it may have been discontinued. I’m not sure but it appears there is a new version coming out that is supposed to be more stable. I think the Aphex is among the most versatile.
While it’s a nice stand it is expensive but does look pretty cool. You could use an X Stand and place a board on it then the LP on it for lower use. One of my live rigs is a two tier X Stand with a board on the bottom tier to hold the Drum Machine and any other small accessories needed for playing. The second tier what ever keyboard I need for that performance on it.
Good luck

+ 1 on the Apex stand... that picture looks like my live set-up!
There is no weight or stability issue... but, I wouldn't gig it if the band members were wild on stage.... the stand can't be tipped going forward, but can be going backward... of course, that's where YOU are.
I really like it, though. - best, jgirv

Hi David,dagargo wrote:GregAE,
that looks really great. I was thinking of getting an Apex but there are several models so, could you tell us which is the one pictured? Did you need the extended brackets or the standard ones?
Regards, David.
That stand is four or five years old, so it's probably the original one (the label says 'AX48BP'). It also has the optional microphone pole attached (it's the slim pole on the right side in the pic).
The LP uses the standard support arms, not the extended.

I use a Hercules KS410B Z-stand.
My Casio sits on the bottom & my LPTE sits on the top.
Rock-solid solution... better than QuikLok.

The Apex looks nice, although I'm surprised that the arms are stable due to how they look in pictures. It's just the price tag of over $200 is a bit much. That Hercules tripod though looks good, due to cramped space something like that would be good so I could put some foogers underneath.

Oh Xenollop, I've posted it on other threads but here's what the Magic-6 looks like on that Hosa 152.. TOTALLY worth it!

I'm definitely getting the Hosa tilting rack, I just need to figure out what stand would go best with it, Which that Hercules looks like it would fit nicely around it. Who stocks Hercules stands? Is there a good alternative via Sweetwater?

This On-Stage one is at Sweetwater, is there any downside to it compared to the Hercules brand? The price is pretty fantastic for such a beast.

Yeah... a very nice 2nd to Hercules. Go for it!
I just don't like the QuikLok clamp style tiers on some units.
