Help re-creating sound on Sub-Phatty

Post by JoelMarlow » Fri Mar 25, 2016 5:46 pm

Hey guys,

Hope everyone is well!

Today I got my first Moog product, a Sub-Phatty. It's actually the first analog synth I've ever owned too so I'm super excited!

I want to use it with a project I'm working on at the moment. I had previously created this bass sound in Massive - https://soundcloud.com/joelmarlow/joel- ... ea/s-o3rdH and wondered if anyone had suggestions on how to re-make it with my Sub Phatty?

Thanks! :D

Hello!

Sub Phatty would not be my first choice for this sound, since a nice unison mode on a poly-synth gives that metallic, wide quality to this kind of square-bass sound.... and if you are using a monosynth you will need a chorus (or two) to replicate that kind of 'width'. (SF doesn't have a built-in chorus, of course).

But I was up for a challenge and had a little try with my SP here. I don't think it goes as 'wide' sounding as yours. But I got close-ish, and hopefully a pleasing result. Note that this needed external chorus (here I used the included, very basic Cubase chorus, it could have been doubled up with a second chorus for a more juno-esque square wide sound).

Let me know if you would like some details as to the preset I made.... all the best
