Sub 37 Midi / CV Expander?
Sub 37 Midi / CV Expander?
I know the CV Out a la Little Phatty is not possible (as discussed in detail on this Grand Forum)
but wouldn't it be possible to do something with the USB Out?
I'm sure we would all like a VX-351 style USB - CV Output expander to rack next to our CP-251.....
A extra set of Midi I/O would be great also to send clock to the Midi Foogers
Get On It Moogers!

Re: Sub 37 Midi / CV Expander?
I think they would sell some. I'd buy one. But they might not sell enough to make it worth their time and money. Maybe thats why the MP-201 had a sort life.
Re: Sub 37 Midi / CV Expander?
I was thinking the USB already sends midi out so It wouldn't take too much R & D,
you could have Pitch CV, Gate, Mod & pitch Wheels, pressure & 5 pin midi out for clock.
A few hundred bucks & you could talk CV to foogers & other modules
More to the point I'm sure it would increase Sub 37 Sales into the modular arena which would make it worthwhile.
Or you could buy a synthesizers.com Q174 module.
But I'd rather give the Moogers my cash.
I guess we'll wait & see if they are going to do modules at a price point for mortals......

Re: Sub 37 Midi / CV Expander?
Dunno if I see this as a Moog product but a generic 8 channel Midi CC to CV box would be handy.

Re: Sub 37 Midi / CV Expander?
Right now I'm using a Waldorf Pulse 2 as a Midi-CV interface to pitch a Freqbox as a 3rd oscillator. (0sc out to the audio in on the Sub)
Works a treat, but I kinda want my pulse to do other stuff.

I haven't played with the MIDI out yet, so question for you: in duo-mode which osc does your freqbox follow?Marcie609 wrote:Right now I'm using a Waldorf Pulse 2 as a Midi-CV interface to pitch a Freqbox as a 3rd oscillator. (0sc out to the audio in on the Sub)

Re: Sub 37 Midi / CV Expander?
Good question Mr Nutty!
I just tried it out & it seems to follow the highest note.
That is the Pulse transmits the higher note to the CV out, but it is possible that
it can be changed as the pulse is also paraphonic. I tried a mono patch & a paraphonic patch
& both sent the higher note to the freqbox. (on those patches at least...)

Re: Sub 37 Midi / CV Expander?
Neat! I have two Freqboxes, and haven't done much with them as extra osc's yet. I'm having such a good time grooving on the Sub37 by itself.
Since the Phatty line had no CV out's I was considering the freqboxes more as a Voyager thing. But, breaking the mold is where the action always is and I've read folks using the MP-201 to do some CV out related stuff. I've been waiting to rack up my MF's to really start playing with them, those darn wall warts get in the way - and 12 of them is just ridiculous without good modular packaging. This weekend is when I planned on starting.
After a some reading this morning, I expect the MIDI rules also follow this section below. good stuff!

KB PRIORITY (PRESET EDIT MENU 2.1) Because the Sub 37 is monophonic (unless in DUO MODE), it will play only one note at a time. By default, when you press two keys at the same time, it plays the most recent key you pressed, regardless of its position. This is called last-note priority. You can change that behavior, however, so that it will play either the lowest or the highest note when you press more than one key. The choices are LOW (low-note priority), HIGH (high-note priority), or LAST (last-note priority). When the DUO MODE button is lit, oscillator two will follow the low key, high key, or no keys, as indicated by the LO and HI LEDs in the oscillator section. There is a global override of per-preset keyboard note priority in the GLOBAL MENU. If LOW, HIGH, or LAST is chosen there, all KB PRIORITY settings will be ignored

Re: Sub 37 Midi / CV Expander?
Now i think of it it would be possible to make a Midi USB - CV box work for the Sub 37 & the Minitaur as well.
I guess you could just midi them together but CV out adds so many more possibilities....
Cross Product Expander Box! Twice as many sales! How 'bout it Moog?

Re: Sub 37 Midi / CV Expander?
I'd be interested in a break-out cv box as well...Sub 37 and Minitaur.

Re: Sub 37 Midi / CV Expander?
Can the Mother 32 be used as a Midi to CV converter?

It can do it, yes, for Pitch, Gate, VCA and an assignable parametermuleskinner wrote:Can the Mother 32 be used as a Midi to CV converter?

CV expander for Sub 37 would definitely interest me!

Re: Sub 37 Midi / CV Expander?
I don't have any experience with this, but there are other companies that make MIDI to CV boxes:
If you're using Eurorack modules, then there seem to be way more options. Just search the web for 'MIDI to CV' and you'll find quite a few brands and units.
