Why only 37 keys on the Sub 37?

Post by Sub37 User » Sat Feb 22, 2014 10:02 am

Is there some reason for this? Why not just go the full 44 like the minimoog.. :D

Cause then you'd have to change your user name to Sub44 User and it's impossible

Because doing it as a 37 allows them to use the same chassis as the now discontinued Little Phatty.... thus making it easy to hit a lower price point while adding all of these feature upgrades over a Sub.

Exactly. The Voyager is Moog's flagship synth line, so it costs more - and part of the benefit for paying more is the larger keyboard, among other features.

That's not to say the Sub37 doesn't have some cool features of it's own - duo/paraphony, sequencer, arpeggiator, loopable envelopes etc. - features probably made possible for the price, as modoc_333 said above, by sticking to the original pre-designed Little Phatty chassis and keyboard size.

thanks for the replies... Makes sense... anyone notice the dates got pushed back on the sub 37 a little? Musicians friend had my preorder for may 26, now its June 26. No worries, I just wonder if its because of demand or just fine tuning. If fine tuning I hope they can add some of the stuff people are mentioning in the feature request post.. Like tap tempo, and the ability to set the tempo or even see it with sub division. (134.3) I am more than happy waiting and understand the process though.. I'm just beyond super stoked to try it out, the sub 37 will be my first synth. I have been shopping forever, juno 106's korg ms2000's etc... The Sub 37 is the one I am most excited about having, though I am still looking to find a cheap analog modeling 61 key polyphonic with midi, vocoder, and aftertouch to have as my other device while I wait on the sub 37.
