Slim phatty osc2 calibration not running

Post by Durutti » Fri Jan 31, 2014 11:11 am

Hi!
The osc2 of my slim phatty is out of tune. Note calibration (from 12 to 116) and pw amount calibration worked well, osc1 reaches 60.00 quickly in less than 10 minutes. But osc2 is still out of tune after 2 hours so I wanted to run the osc2 calibration.
According to the slim phatty manual about this procedure:
Calibration will begin, and the display will appear as shown. The first number that appears on the display is the base note for calibration (MIDI note 60). The second number is the calibration value (this is the value stored in the SP’s EEPROM), and the third number is the actual measured note, which is displayed in MIDI Note Number Cents (in the example shown here, ‘64.37’ indicates MIDI note 64, and the actual measured value is 37 cents sharp). When calibration starts, the SP first tunes itself to the base note. As this happens, you will see the measured note value hone in on 60.00. Then the calibration value will change as the note climbs to 67.00, at which point it has calibrated the maximum value (+7 semitones), and then the note descends to 53.00 at which point it has calibrated the minimum value (-7 semitones).

Mine begins at note 72 and stops after about 1 minute. Then my phatty is freezed and I have to turn it off.
I tried: - a factory restore but no effect
Is it a firmware issue ? The SP is running on 3.12.
Thanks for your help!

Hey.
Let it warm up at least 45 minutes
- Go to the calibration page
- Note calibration -> Enter
- start @12, end @116
- Yes, sure

Now it´s time to learn a little music theory or have a loooooong sh#t

when successful, do the same with "PW amount" and then with "Osc2 Freq".
After all that, choose auto tune and good is.

Edit: You have run all 3 calibrations, one after the other (like I wrote).

Hi

I didn't let you know before but I did the calibration like you said but I had the same result. Although this time I had to wait 20 minutes before osc2 calibration freezed. It stills begin at 72.

Any help ?

Hi Durutti,

Andy from the Moog Service Lab here. The Slim should definitely NOT freeze up during a note calibration!

This could be either a firmware issue(I would suggest doing a factory restore on the unit first) or a hardware issue that is causing the firmware to freak out...in that case I would suggest getting an RMA number and sending over to our shop for service.

Either way please contact me directly at 1-828-251-0090 xt 221 or by email: [email protected]

I will be happy to help you get this sorted!

PS) it is correct now for Osc2 Freq calibration to begin at Note 72; this was changed a while ago as we found it gave a better calibration if you did it an octave higher.

okay thanks Andy I emailed you! @Amos: okay but it stays during the whole process at note 72. More precisely:
72 16’384 62
then to 72 30’512 78
and after a while goes to 72 16’384 78

And then it definitely freezes.

Hey!

some news: First I sent the moog to my country's distributor who repaired it. 2 problems were involved: apparently there was no grounding which was causing a continuous moving of the knobs values. Then the pitch memory seemed to be corrupted so he had to programm it again. So everything's alright now!

Except for the Release knob for the amp and filters enveloppes. Sometimes when I move the release of the filter enveloppe all the way up, it turns the release of the amp enveloppe all the way down ... Only in this order, not the other way around. Quite strange ...
