slim phatty osc2 unstable and out of tune

Post by spin » Wed Aug 28, 2013 6:18 pm

Hi guys!
For some months my slim phatty was working well, no problems found. This month (after 10 days of holiday) i found that the osc2 has became a bit unstable, and with the freq knob at minimum at maximum position i got a 4th and a 5th a bit out of tune. I've tried with 2 recalibrations and factory restores, (after 2 hour of warm up in a room with a stable temperature) but it's the same. Any idea?

Are you doing all 3 calibration routines, in the order listed in the operator's manual?
It does seem to make a difference...

I am bringing this thread back as I have exactly the same problem.

OSC 2 is out of tune with OSC 1 and this gets worse the further up the octaves they go.

I have done all warm ups and calibrations a number of times but no better.

Any ideas?

I was worried cause I had this problem for a while, but it was just that I had to do a full note calibration and then the VCO2 calibration, in that order. After that it was no issue. If the unit is left unused for a while you may have to do this procedure again but it's no big deal, it just takes a long time.

Hi there,

Andy from Moog Tech Support here!!!

First, for best results the OSC 2 calibration should be performed as soon after the Note Calibration is complete.

Second, the auto tuning algorithm is temperature sensitive, so it is really best to perform this after a full 30 minutes of warm up and to run it again if the ambient temperature of the operating environment has changed dramatically.

If after following the above advice, and performing multiple note calibrations, you are still having tuning problems there may be an underlying hardware issue that needs to be addressed. Please contact me directly at [email protected] or at 1-(828)-251-0090 xt. 221(or 217, 204) for further assistance.

Thanks,

Hi!

I have the same problem.

But in my case, The osc 2 is a little sharp in pitch. I discovered this after 30 days of not playing it. The funny thing is that some presets that include osc 2 in various detunings are fine, like the veer before, but some are not the same. Osc 2 frequency can now go higher than a perfect 5th, but on the same time it is perfect 4th if I tune it lower then osc 2. The center of the pot is actually a little lower the unison.

For me this is not a problem, but the problem is the whole stability of the phatty. My presets are always changing in sound… So I really can't recall a sound from 2 years ago.
