Very audible stepping with the touch surface controller

Post by Barely » Wed May 14, 2014 3:25 pm

Hello guys :)
I'm a proud owner of a new voyager Select (yay, one of the last ones!),
and I'm amazed by the sound quality, even compared to my Little Phatty.

However now, after a few days, whenever I use the touch controller, there is some VERY audible stepping.
Depending on how fast I move the finger on the pad, it can have between 2-8 steps.
(very clear if it is routed to the filter cutoff- a former Shhhhwoooooooooaaaaeep now became Ssh-wo-wo-wa-weep. If you know what I mean :) )

If my mind is not playing tricks on me, it was very smooth before.
I tried switching it on and off, trying different patches, turning the cutoff knob (works perfectly).
There is no midi connected, only audio out.
I have tried switching the Touch surface data reduction on and off in the menu, no changes here.
The only thing I did other than switching it on and of and playing and tweaking knobs is I added a Small Stone Phaser (yeah!) to the effect loop,
but disconnecting it didn't change anything.
Have I accidentally switched something or is my Voyager broken?

Thanks a lot it advance! :)

My touch surface did this once. Not sure if it was an upgrade or I just changed the setting. There is a menu for the touch surface "LFO S&H", this sets the touch surface to sync to the LFO and sounds like stepping. Can't remember if it was a global or patch setting but the stepping went away when switched off. There is a seperate TS-X, TS-Y, and TS-A setting for this LFO synced Sample/Hold feature.
Took me a while to figure this out when it happened.

Hello CZ Rider,
Thanks a lot for your answer!
It seems indeed to be the LFO stepping described on page 79 of the manual (Found it!)

But I couldn't find a global setting for this, only in the "edit" section.
Should it be hidden in the "master" section? Or do I need to reprogram ALL presets back? Waaah? :)
Cheers,
Barely.

Guess it is a per patch setting then? Can't remember when it happened, but I think it was after one of the upgrades and written into some of the patches I had on mine. I guess it depends on the LFO speed if it is noticable. But I do remember having to fix this setting on a few patches. I went through the same thing though. Thought it was smoother and never stepped. And it was difficult to figure out what had changed, and where the setting was to fix it.

If I remember correctly, if used to control pitch, the touch surface will stairstep.

Hi Barely,
there's a reset function in the hidden factory menu (Copyright Info):
Press MASTER, select the menu Copyright Info.
Then press the +1 button and select "T.S. XYAG S&H", select YES and press ENTER.
This resets all S&H touch surface settings for the actual preset bank.
Have fun,
Rudi

Now that is a secret function! I wonder how I found it when I accidentally switched it on :)
Thanks a lot, Rudi :) <3

Cheers,
