Will the new OS3.0 work on unmodified Voyagers?!!!!

Post by Demokid » Tue Aug 16, 2005 10:25 am

Will the new OS 3.0 work on Voyagers that hasn’t been hardware updated?!! If not then I really hope Moog will continue to develop/fix bugs in the OS 2.x as well. Some people might not want to spend an additional 225$ when they already spent over 3395 bucks on a synthesizer just to receive upgrades.

I own a MMV AE and I have no trouble with MIDI and 128 patches are enough for me. I don’t need 6 new presets banks since I want to create my own personal sounds… Why buy a sizer with loads of nice knobs if you only use presets??? I just want to be able to receive software upgrades!!!

Kind regards
Demokid

I was wondering the same thing. But just think of all the more space you'll have to save your patches :D You're thinking, I have the editor don't need it. Well, let's hope that's updated. Guess we'll have to wait and see...

I bought my Voyager in 2004 and have saved maybe 30 patches in memory. I usually SysEx dump them direct into Cubase SX so I don’t need a lot of memories. That way the correct sounds are loaded when I play a song.

I thought the extra banks only where ROM banks and that you still “only” have 128 user RAM.

Do you know anything about bugs in the OS 2.5?

I haven’t installed OS 2.5 since I don’t use the editor. SysEx dump is changed a bit in 2.5 and I like the way it works in 2.4. I haven’t encountered any bugs in 2.4 (I think) but new software features are always welcome like. It would be sad if the new hardware is required to receive OS updates with new software features.
The Voyager is already an expensive synthesizer. I think it is wrong to expect users to spend additional $225 to be able to upgrade OS.

I'm sure the OS 3.0 will work with the 128 preset version.

That's great news, Rudi! Thanks!

Now if OS3.0 ever gets posted here...

Probably when the new board is available as a field upgrade?
