Hi Dan,
Every time I watch one of your demo's on an instrument that Sweetwater will be supplying it always amazes me how good your video and audio are in the demo, not to mention "YOUR PLAYING" ...
So for this BIG TIME, none professional, keyboard/studio enthusiast, can you please share with us how you set them up? What would we need to purchase from Sweetwater to achieve that visual and audio perfection, especially the audio side.
Thanks in advance for any and all FEEDBACK!!!

I'm not sure if you're going to like/dislike the answer. I use a $9 Left and Right 1/4" unbalanced Insert Cable from the instrument that ends in an 1/8" TRS plug which goes into the Audio In of whatever camera the video team is using.

Then I use the same type of cable to go from the Headphone Out of the video camera to a small Roland Stereo Keyboard amp on the floor (or table) in front of me. (That way the amp is not in the signal path of the recording.)

So the signal path is: Keyboard directly to the camera. The only variation is when I put a TC Electronic Flashback Delay in between the keyboard and camera. And it's True Bypass, so that, when it's off, I'm still going direct from the keyboard to the camera. And it's always set to a full-fidelity, no coloration, stereo Ping Pong Delay. That way you're hearing exact (but quieter) echoes of the keyboard being demoed.

As for the visuals, my first 10+ videos were shot on the original blue ZOOM camera. Later we used a hand-held camera that also had video capability. But we keep improving cameras every year to the point that they're now using a Cannon C100.

The vocal wireless mic is a Sennheiser EW system with a Lavalier.

Re: Question for Daniel Fisher
You plug a line level signal from a synth into the Ext Mic 3.5mm (1/8") on the Canon EOS C100 without any distortion ? I suppose that input must be selectable between line and mic then ?
Anyway, thanks for the question HookedOnSonics, and detailed answer _DemonDan_!

Must be. They sometimes have me turn up, other times they have me turn down. So I know I'm within the camera's usable input range.thealien666 wrote:You plug a line level signal from a synth into the Ext Mic 3.5mm (1/8") on the Canon EOS C100 without any distortion? Outstanding!!!. We are trying to understand what it takes to put something of that caliber together. The camera is awesome and the Wireless System with ME 4 Cardioid Clip-on Lavalier Microphone sounds great. Your definitive explanation is exactly what we were looking for, helped ALLOT!!!
Again, Thank You!!!
