I had to try this MOD on my Source ... adds a cool dimension !
notice that instead of un-soldering resistors, I simply snip one side
ie., only one lead is broken half way and the resistor sightly bent out of the way ...
the yellow jumper and new resistor are soldered "on the fly" ...
this way the mod can be reversed easily without wrecking the board
thx to analoguediehard, for posting info ...

Re: Moog Source // FM Mod
Glad you liked my modifications. Can I put your images on my webpage?
Gear list: '04 Saturn Ion, John Deere X300 tractor, ganged set of seven reel mowers for 3 acres of lawn, herd of sheep for backup lawn mowers, two tiger cats for mouse population control Oh you meant MUSIC gear Oops I hit the 255 character limi
Re: Moog Source // FM Mod
glad you chimed in MC, I tried emailing you at yer gmale accnt
last night I noticed that on some patches, I get a periodic beating pattern when turning up the FM
not on others ...
I'm pretty sure my Source needs a tuning ... which is next on my agenda
but I thought I'd ask you about this to see what you think
... no problem posting these on you site

Re: Moog Source // FM Mod
I'm also trying to figure out how "AC hum" is creeping into the output signal ...
wonder if you ever looked at that
wonder if you ever looked at that
Re: Moog Source // FM Mod
Never had any issue with AC hum, sorry

Re: Moog Source // FM Mod
Come to think of it, maybe it was because I was running it into a gtr amp to test the MOD out ...
ie., output at a much lowered level than normal (hence shitty S/N, etc ... resulting in more hum than usual)
I'm curious about the beating pattern ...? (trying to figure out how that can even happen)
is this normal ...?
thx

Re: Moog Source // FM Mod
some useful info I saw before, and was confounding with the Source
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7WsDFSFAqY
I had to watch it again to figure out that I might want to build myself an external oscillator
and use that to drive the FM on the Source as an experiment
some terribly wild sounds there

Re: Moog Source // FM Mod
alright, I'm gonna take back some of what I said ...
had a chance to experiment more with this thing modded
WOW, I think I hit paydirt
there's a few things I hadn't realized beforehand ...
one, that when the INTERVAL is set to 0 there is still some play in the adjustment
before the digit flips to one, even a little below relative to what the patch calls up
that's where my beating was coming from // prob. solved
two, hadn't noticed how high the MOD oscillator could go ...
in the high 90's there's a plethora of razzy effects up there
add the FM on top of that, and pretty impressive "broken electronics" type sounds ...
not the ringing sounds I heard in the Mini clip, but their own thing
and very amazing
in other patches I was able to dial in some fantastic FMizations
I'll have a look at the AC hum picture a little later ...
thanks for the FM mod MC // it's very effective and inspiring
