You won't need documentation if you have the original FFB.

Just the Henry value which is documented on the schematics and can be verified with the proper equipment; and the materials types which you can also ascertain by examining the stock originals (wire gauge, bobbin size, etc.)

I'd be more apt to take a 401K loan to buy a Moog produced FFB for $1500 than i would be to purchase a 'clone' by COTK or elsewhere for $1,000 if Moog made the statement that it was identical to the original.

Then again, imagine a study/A-B test of the original, a full reproduction that Moog made, the COTK version which uses inductors, the Synthwerk version (also Inductors), the YuSynth design which does NOT use inductors, Roger's, and MOS-LABs which is either based on the YuSynth design or identical to the YuSynth design.

Noise levels, drive, response, etc. That would be one for the ages.

Some years ago, I had a test lab and Engineering staff working for me and would write specifications and test plans to test the very same thing... unfortunately, it was NOT in the audio/music industry... but it sure would be an interesting read/listen if this could be done.

In the end, some of us might prefer a non-inductor based FFB?

Mr. Munster might be easier to get a hold of.

Great. Can we have Wendy Carlos's Modular next? The variety of timbres in her recordings is still amazing.

I think that from a sheer engineering perspective, and as a 50th anniversary "event" this is simply awesome. The skill taken to source and build this beast (and two if them) shows the passion which Moog still has after all these years. Well done - now if only I could afford one!

Is there a complete list of the modules for this monster anywhere?

Looks like Keyboard Mag uplaoded a U-tube video of the Emerson clone modular. Gene Stopp explaines some of the modules and various functions. Would have never guessed those two 901 oscillators are used for the sample-hold module. One for sample rate and the other for the sample waveform. A little like how the 1125 S&H works with both oscillators tied together. Interesting explanation by Gene.

If a lot of those panels are dummies on the top and bottom rows, then it should be way less than the rumored 90k.

MB sold the System 55 for around 50k and I think he was still gouging.

I didn't realie it took so long to wire the 960. It would probably take someone a lot longer with less experience.

Thanks for the link CZ

After recreating a full modular, the individual modules must surely be availble for sale in the future. The work to make faithful module replicas to assemble a short production run but then throw it all away is crazy. Nothing but more good can come out of the Emerson modular.

well no, not surely. the parts used are new old stock (nos) so they are no longer in production ( mostly)

NOS still comes out of the woodwork for 303 clones, then there's minor circuitry changes to fit modern components. Much is quite possible. Why make boards and metal panels if there is no future? Maybe because they see a reasonable run.

true. they may not be Emerson modules, but maybe at least modern moog modules.

Of course there will be purists saying the original circuits are better, and it's best not to mention capacitors and inductors at all. No end of flame wars with those two words :)

Moog have come quite late to their own reunion party with other 5U manufacturers well established now. I don't have anything modular so don't have a vested opinon but I'm interested how a wall of modules collector feels about Moog now.
