Re: Subseq 37: Using Velocity to control volume

That's right, OUT VOL isn't in the list (it's a typo in the manual). Instead it's on the front panel, in the MOD sections. In the lower left corner of the MOD sections there's the MOD DEST button, and you can press it until VCA LEVEL is lit. However, that only gives you a negative amount and not wit...

Re: Presets

The driver was installed. I reloaded the firmware that was supplied by Moog (version 1.2.0) after registering the synth. Still no joy. However I went on to the Moog site and looked under downloads a later version was available for download 1.3.2 , I downloaded this and was then able to go in to set...

Re: Presets

If you're on Windows, you have to install the Sub 37 USB drivers before the editor will connect with your synth. You may also have to install the latest firmware on the synth (regardless of whether you're using PC or Mac). The USB driver and firmware should be in the folder structure of the ZIP arch...

Re: Presets

Moog doesn't fill up the preset banks completely. The Sub 37 comes with 128 presets IIRC. For the Subsequent that leaves you with 112 preset locations for your own sounds, before you have to start overwriting the factory presets.

Re: sub 37 screen issue

If you don't have any experience with servicing or working on electronics, I think you should hand it off to a tech. It's easy to open, although a little fiddly to get to the connector; you may have to take out the left hand panel board, but for an experienced tech it's quick work. In electronics se...

Re: Mod wheel as expression wheel - Sub37

Yes , that's possible. To make it simple, let's start with an init patch and add mod wheel control of the noise level. We'll use the MOD 1 section for this. - Switch MOD SOURCE to F. EG/PGM . "PGM" meaning that we'll use a programmable source. - Press the CONTROLLERS button to bring up the...

Re: sub 37 screen issue

Sounds like a hardware issue with the LCD module, its cable/connector or the driver.

If the synth is out of warranty and/or you fell like having a go at it by yourself, you could open it up and reseat the connector to see if that helps. If not, I guess it's off for repair.

Re: FILTER STEPPING!!! - sub 37

I tried some more today, with fresh ears. It seems to go from stepped to completely smooth at a specific sweep speed. I still can't get the mod wheel to step. I also tried super slow envelope sweeps, and that's perfectly smooth. The fact that it steps at semi tone intervals supports your suggestion ...

Re: FILTER STEPPING!!! - sub 37

OK, tested, and I get the semitone stepping on extremely slow movements of the cutoff knob, as you do. When the cutoff knob is being moved a little faster it's totally smooth. The mod wheel seems to work fine though (using CONST ON for MOD 1 with 100% MW control), not stepping even if I move it much...

Re: FILTER STEPPING!!! - sub 37

Can't say I've gotten quite what you have there. If there's some signal being fed to the filter you can get harmonic stepping, but since you have switched of all sources in the mixer it can't be that. If you post a patch with this phenomenon, I'll test it on my Sub 37.

Re: Sub 37 - Keyboard quality and playability

If you just need realistic keys, you probably want to check out this setup: https://www.allpianos.com/digital I don't think anyone wants or expects piano action. We're just discussing the finer points of the Sub 37's synth action keyboard. Some of us would like a little lighter action, so that it g...

You can use the GATE input to advance the sequencer and arpeggiator steps:

In the GLOBAL MENU, select CV MAPPING and set GATE to STEP ADV.

I can't comment yet on the timing of the next update as we are still working out our schedule for various projects, but I will make sure these things don't languish . ... @Amos, what's it looking like one and a half year later for a firmware update to at least address the bugs that have been re...

Re: Playing filter resonance (Sub 37)

Yes, it was by trial end error. I used another synth as the pitch reference, then tuning the resonating S37 filter to a C (that can be a bit fiddly sometimes, you may have to adjust it from either below or above the C to hit it precisely since the filter may want to "stick" a little in som...

Re: Playing filter resonance (Sub 37)

Two things may cause that: The pot positions/markings aren't precise and the filter tuning may be a little stretched or compressed. On my Sub 37, I find that a tracking value of 8127, as indicated by the editor, gives me good filter tuning over at least three octaves. If I set the tracking knob visu...
